The Sad Tale of Picher, Oklahoma
Driving through rural northeast Oklahoma, you would never know that it’s the site of a town that has suffered tragedy after tragedy. This is the sad tale of Picher, Oklahoma, and a look at what remains today.
How I Shot a Total Solar Eclipse
I was fortunate enough to be able to plan a trip to witness and photograph the 2024 total solar eclipse over the United States. In this post I will share with you how I planned the trip, how I shot the eclipse, and some of the photos I walked away with.
Forgotten America - My Newest Project
Hello everyone! I’ve been working hard behind the scenes lately and I’m finally ready to share my newest project with you. Come check it out!
The Story Of Mullens, West Virginia
Mullens, West Virginia is the epitome of America’s stereotypical coal town. The once bustling metropolis is a shell of its former self, with many of the buildings sitting abandoned, decaying further with each passing moment. Walking the streets of this shell of a city is an almost surreal experience, but things haven’t always been this way in Mullens. Let’s take a step back and see how we got here.
The Wonderful Waterfalls Of Daniel Boone National Forest
What really never ceases to amaze me is how many people there are that are unaware of the grand natural beauty of the Bluegrass State. Ask most people about the waterfalls our state has to offer and you’ll get a lot of the same, obvious answers. Pretty much everyone knows of Cumberland Falls. A few more will be able to name Creation Falls and possibly Dog Slaughter Falls. As of late, some others, such as Copperas Falls, have become more well-known. The list really doesn’t extend far beyond these, however. What many don't realize is that the Bluegrass State is full of an abundance of amazing waterfalls.
A Day Trip To Spruce Knob In West Virginia
It has been several years now since I first laid eyes on the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. Ever since that first trip to Dolly Sods, I have been in love with the area’s scenery. I’ve been itching to get back to the area for some time now, so I decided to head on out to Dolly Sods and Spruce Knob for a bit of photography!
A Few Recent Images From Auxier Ridge In The Red River Gorge
Over the past few months, I have spent a fair bit of time out on Auxier Ridge in the Red River Gorge portion of Kentucky’s Daniel Boone National Forest. Despite the area featuring some of the best views in the entire Bluegrass, I rarely spend this much time out there during the warmer months since it’s quite the popular area. This year, however, has been an exception.
A Few Abandoned Places In Northern Kentucky
I really enjoy abandonment photography, though I don’t practice it nearly as much as I do landscape photography. Every once in a while, however, I like to throw my camera in the car and just drive around to see what I can find. Sometimes you come away with something and sometimes you get completely skunked, but that’s just part of the fun.
I recently did one of these drives and came away with a few locations that I thought I’d share. Enjoy!
Photographing Ohio’s Waterfalls
I have a really bad habit of discounting some of the natural beauty that can be found throughout Ohio. Despite having spent the majority of my early life in the state and still living quite close, I rarely ever venture up that way for photography.
So far this year, however, I have spent several weekends shooting some of the waterfalls throughout the Buckeye state. Here’s just a small sampling of what I’ve seen so far.
Discovering Two New Waterfalls In The Red River Gorge
I got 2019 started off right by going to check out two spots in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge that looked curious on LiDAR. In fact, they looked an awful lot like waterfalls! This trip resulted in us documenting two new waterfalls in the Red River Gorge.
In Search Of A Smoky Mountains Sunrise On Mt. Leconte
During my last trip to The Great Smoky Mountains, I decided that I wanted to night hike up Mt. Leconte to Myrtle Point to attempt to photograph the sunrise. This is a trip I’ve been trying to do for several months, but the weather has never been particularly cooperative!
5 Of My Favorite Natural Arches In Kentucky
Kentucky is just packed full of natural arches. In fact, it’s ranked either second or third in the United States for the most natural arches. We are behind only Utah and possibly Arizona. East of the Mississippi, however, we are ranked number one!
